Some Little Secrets
Well, here's some little secrets in the game.
First World
The Skull Eaters
- Some players may have been brave enough to attempt going through the cave near Jacole. Thos players likely were destroyed by some stupid looking chipmunk thingy. These creature have only 1 HP, but are virtually invincible to all attacks. They don't give any EXP, but they do give 5 ABP, which isn't bad for the first world. You will always meet up with just a single Skull Eater. Whatever you do, do not cast a spell on them. They'll likely take 0 damage, but 5 more will suddenly appear. The Skull Eaters commonly do 750+ damage, which is usually deadly at the time you make it there. One of its attacks also does 1500+ damage to characters in the front row, so be careful.
- Here's how to beat them. Use a ninja to throw something inexpensive, or use the Blue Magic 1000 Needles; both will do enough damage to kill it. Sure, the rewards aren't great, but the little bugger is a hard enemy to beat.
- The Prototype
- The Prototype is like a very toned down version of Omega; he uses all the same attacks, with reduced damage, but he's still a very hard enemy to beat. He has the annoying Blaster, Circle, and Wave Cannon attacks, along with the missile spells, but he doesn't counter attack like Omega does. He has 5000 HP, but has a high enough defence to take very little damage from your attacks. He also has a Reflect barrier similar to Omega's, so avoid casting spells on him. He can be found on one of the southern islands in the ring of islands with the town of Crescent
- There are several ways to beat him. You can try using the ???? Blue Magic one he's hit you with Wave Cannon; it can do fair damage then. Also, you can use 1000 Needles 5 times to kill him, but watch out; he'll get in 1 or 2 attacks, and if both are Wave Cannon, you're history. Make sure to stay healthy. If you beat him, you get 7 ABP, 5000 GIL, along with one of the rare Dark Matter items, used for mixing up some good attacks.
- The Sango no Tsurugi
- This lightning-elemental weapon is one of the better swords in the first world (37 attack power), and can be bought in Jacole. The special thing about it is that you can get it as early as the Tower of Walse. You'll find enemies called Ice Soldiers there; try stealing from them. Most of the time, you'll get a Mithril Sword. If you're very lucky, though, you'll get a Sango no Tsurugi. It's extremely rare, but it pays off; it will save you 2800 GIL.
- The Javelin
- This powerful weapon cannot be bought; it has 55 attack power, higher than some of the spears you can buy in the second world. Where can you get it? In the Desert of Quicksand. You'll find some monsters called Sand Bears there; they will always have one. The problem is actually stealing one, for it's very difficult to steal from them. it can take over 100 attempts, and the Sand Bear has fair attack power as well; the Stop Time Magic helps a bit. the effort pays off, though.
- The War Hammer
- The War Hammer cannot be bought until the second world, but it can be stolen from an enemy called Bio Soldier, near the town of Crescent and near Jacole as well. Unfotunately, it's rare; you'll likely steal a Battle Axe instead, which isn't quite as powerful. The War Hammer has 38 attack power.
- The Death Sickle
- This rare item has pretty good attack power (43), and randomly kills its target, much like the Assassin Knife. It can be dropped by fighting monsters called Crescent, conveniently found near the town of Crescent. It's kinda rare; just keep fighting and you'll eventually get it. The next chance you'll have to find it isn't until the third world, and it will be obsolete by then.
- The Killer Bow
- This is the most powerful bow that can be found in the first world, and is a rare find as well. It has 49 attack power, and cannot be bought until the second world. You can steal it from one of the stronger monsters, the Hydra, in the Ruins of Lonka.
- The Wind Spear
- If you stole some Javelins, you won't need this. It's a 44 attack power spear that can be bought in the second world, and can be stolen from the Chimera Brain boss. It'll save you 5400 GIL, if you can get it.
- The Lamia Tiara
- These can be stolen from the Lamias in the Ruins of Lonka. They are the only item they have, but again it can take awhile for a successful steal. It provides 3 defence for non-knight type jobs, and provides some decent magic protection as well. It cannot be bought until the third world, and you can find another in the second world.
- Shinobi no Fuku
- This light armor can be found by stealing from Page 256 in the Ancient Library, and cannot be bought until the second world. It provides 9 defence, the same as a Mithril Armor, but non-knight type jobs can use it.
- The Earth Axe
- If you can get this item, you're very lucky. It has 58 attack power, and cannot be bought until the third world, for 12800 GIL. To get it, you have to steal from Titan, and it is very rare; most of the time, you'll steal a High Potion. It's a great find for the first world.
Second World
- The Shield Dragon
- Most players who venture into Koozer, the Sealed Castle, may have found a strange black dragon. They would attempt to defeat it, but would fail miserably. This monster is the Shield Dragon, one of the most powerful enemies in the game. He has 19999 HP, so it takes awhile to beat him. Unfortunately, once he loses half of his HP, he runs away.
- There are 2 ways to defeat him. You can use the Reflect spell (from the village of Moore), or use Carbunkle, and reflect Gravity spells; he won't run away then. Once he's down to 1-10 HP, you can try hitting him to kill him; he has very high defence, so might take 0 damage then run away. The second method works much better. Use the Control command from the Monster Trainer job. There is a fire attack on his list; make him use it on himself for 4999 damage. Once you use it 5 times, he'll die. He gives 10000 EXP, which is the most a single enemy gives in the game.
- Items from the Dragon Zombie
- The Dragon Zombie in the Valley of Flying Dragons has 4590 HP, and has some devastating attacks (Zombie Breath can do up to 1000 damage to everybody, and turns whoever it kills into a zombie), but he has some good items for your Alchemist. If you steal, you can get a Dark Matter. When you win the battle, he'll almost always leave a Dragon Fang. Both are used for making the best attacks for the Alchemist.
- Aegis Shield or Flame Shield?
- When making your way through the forest of Moore, it'll get burned down. There will be a treasure chest near a tree. If you take it while the forest is still burning, it will be an Aegis Shield (5 defence, 0 magic defence). If you take it after the forest is burnt down, it will be a Flame Shield (7 defence, 5 magic defence, protects from fire). It's your choice.
- The Cave of Guil
- The cave of Gil links the end of the Big Bridge to the Castle of Bal. There's a little passage to the south in the cave, which leads to a door. Beyond the door, you'll start picking up GIL, starting from 10 and doubling with every step. However, there is a very powerful monster lurking there; randomly, you'll fight a creature called Gilgame, which is a turtle with 32768 HP.
- The Gilgame is very powerful, and takes little damage from normal attacks. the only real way to hurt it is by ice attacks and spells. For example, using the Icebrand with the Save Up command from the Monk will cause more than 5000 damage. Also, using Ice 3 Sabre with the Sword Dance while using the Dancing Dagger can do 8000-9999 damage. Make sure to use the Golem summon spell as well; whenever Gilgame is hit, he counters back twice with an attack that does 1200 damage to a front row character, and blinds and poisons them to boot. The reward for making it through the gil is 81910 GIL total, a nice load of cash.
- The Partisan
- In the barrier tower, you'll encounter some large enemies called Jigurato Gigas. They have a fair bit of HP, and use an annoying Hurricane attack. You can steal a very powerful weapon from them, though, the Partisan. the Partisan cannot be bought until the third world, and is worth 10200 GIL. It has 62 attack power, and is the only item the Gigas will have. Unfortunately, it's very difficult to steal it from him. How could you not see that coming, huh?
- ????
- A very dangerous enemy in Exdeath's castle, the Ankoku Madoushi, has the best Staff in the game, attack power wise. It is very difficult to get, but has 60 attack power. Be very careful of the monsters; they use almost all the death attacks in the game, like the Death spell, the Dejon Time Magic, and the Break spell.
- ????
- In the Valley of Flying Dragons, a monster called the Puazon Eagle has a very powerful bow in his possession. It has 69 attack power, cannot be bought, and cannot be found until Exdeath's castle. Again, it is very difficult to steal.
- Genji Equipment
- The first few items in the Genji equipment can be found in the second world. Steal from Gilgamesh in Zezae's Fleet and in Exdeath's castle for the first two. They provide extremely good defence, so don't pass up on them.
- The Bone Mail
- In the Valley of Flying Dragons, there are a bunch of skeletons lying about in one section. Search through them to find the most powerful armor, defence wise, in the game. Be careful though, for it makes your character undead; you can still control them, but they will take damage if healed, and die if the Raise, Araise, or Phoenix Down items are used on them.
- The Korunago no Tsubo
- This item will allow you to capture monsters as a Monster Trainer more easily. To get it, chack the well in the wolf village of Quelb. An old man will pop out, talking about a frog. Next, head outside of town and change one of your characters into a Monster Trainer and find an enemy called the Korunago; it looks like a big frog. Weaken it, then capture it and take it back to the old man; he'll give you the vase as reward.
- The Reflect Ring
- Reflect Rings are rare items; they cannot be bought, and you can't find one until Istory Falls in the third world. In the Barrier Tower, though, there are enemies called Reflect Knights that you can steal them from. Like other items, they are difficult to steal. You can steal one from Carbunkle as well.
- Tenshi no Yubiwa
- There is a passage underwater that leads to where you an get the Catoblepas summon spell. In the passage, there are small creatures called Druids. If you steal from them, you can get an accessory that protects a character from the zombie status ailment, and is worth a whopping 50000 GIL. These too are extremely difficult to get.
- Honoo no Yubiwa
- In Exdeath's Castle, you may run into some Red Dragons, powerful monsters that use fire attacks. If you're very lucky, you can steal an accessory that lets you absorb fire attacks and spells, and is worth 50000 GIL.
- ????
- Another rare find, this accessory protects from lightning. It can be found by defeating one of the more powerful enemies, Yellow Dragons, and is also quite rare. These too, are worth 50000 GIL each.
Third World
- The Avis Killer
- In the Shrine of the Solitary Island, tou may encounter a rare enemy called Tooto Avis. They are huge birds that use the pesky Breath Wing attack, and have 33090 HP. If you steal from them, there's a chance you could find an Avis Killer, which has 91 attack power and cannot be found until the Phoenix Tower.
- The Stingray
- The Stingray is one of the fastest monsters in the game. He uses attacks such as Tidal Wave (which can do 2000+ damage to all characters), and has30000 HP. He can only be found in one spot, and is quite rare; fight near where the Tower of Walse sank to meet him. You can tell if you're in the right area if all the other monsters are from the first world. He has some phenomenol items in his possession. If you steal, you can find the Rune Blade, which uses up MP to do a 100 attack power attack. He can also leave the Ryuu no Muchi, or Dragon Whip, the most powerful whip in the game, after battle. If you control him, you can also learn the hard-to-get Mighty Guard Blue Magic.
- The Mimic job
- With the submarine, you can head underwater to where the Tower of Walse sank. Remember in the first world, there was one crystal fragment that you couldn't reach? Now, Gogo the mimic is guarding it. If you pound on him, you'll find that he'll wipe out your party quite quickly. The object is NOT to hit him; he mimics all of you attacks, and if you don't do anything, he won't attack. After a couple of minutes, he'll say something, then use Dejon on himself. You can now get the Mimic job.
- The Defender
- The Defender sword increases defence, and cannot be bought. It has pretty good attack power, 99, and can be found in the Fork Tower. You can get more of them from stealing from one of 2 enemies though; the Sea Devil that can be fought when riding your ship, and the Land Crawler, a dangerous enemy near the Northern Mountains.
- The Hiryuu no Yari
- The most powerful spear in the game is a rare find, and has more attack power than the Holy Lance and even the Excaliber: 119. There are two ways to get it. In the jail area of the final dungeon, there are a bunch of old men running around (six, I believe). Run into them, and you'll fight them. They have 6000 HP, and, when defeated, turn into Jura Avis, which have 15000 HP. they aren't hard to beat, but you can steal the spear from them. Unfortunately, they also have Maiden Kisses in their possession, and even High Potions as well. thus, they are quite hard to get. The other way is to steal them from the Suishouryuus (Crystal Dragons) in the final dungeon, but it's likely that you'll steal an Elixir instead.
- The Kyoujin no Ono
- One of the best axes in the game, it has 91 attack power, and only one can be found in Istory Falls. If you steal from the Twin Tania boss in the final dungeon, there's a chance you could get one.
- The Ame no Murakumo
- The most powerful katana in the game can be found by stealing from the Youjinbous on the bridge where you fought the Twin Tania. They are very rare, because the enemies have Cottages as well, but the blade is very powerful and is stronger than the Masamune and Excaliber. 117 attack power.
- ????
- The same staff that can be stolen from Ankoku madoushis can also be stolen from rare dragon-like enemies near Istory Falls called Isuteritosu. They don't have a lot of HP, and can be taken out with a spell like LV 3 Flare. Again, it's a very rare item to steal, and has 60 attack power.
- The Lilith Rod
- Lilith Rods aren't as powerful as the Wizard Rod, but they are useful. They boost the power of fire, ice, and lightning spells. An enemy in the Cleft of Dimension called the Falfalero carries this item; try stealing it.
- Artemis Bow
- The strongest bow in the game, you can actually find one in a chest in Istory Falls. If you want more, try stealing from the Dragon Avis which are monsters found in the Cleft of Dimension, in the area where all the invisible paths are. It's another hard to steal item, but they will always have one. It has 111 attack power, 10 more than the Yoichi Bow from Koozer Castle.
- The Rune Bell
- The Rune Bell uses MP to do a 90 attack power attack, more powerful than the Earth Bell from Koozer castle, which has 55 attack power. There is only one enemy in the entire game that gives this to you; you'll have to fight Baldandels near the beginning of the Cleft of Dimension. They'll randomly drop it after battle.
- Ryuu no Muchi
- The most powerful whip in the game, it has 91 attack power and can be found 2 ways. One is by defeating Stingrays; they drop it after battle randomly. Also, you can try stealing one from Shinryuu if you're daring. This weapon works very well against dragons.
- The Genji equipment
- Like in the second world, the last two pieces of the Genji equipment can be found by stealing from Gilgamesh. You'll find him twice in the final area of the final dungeon. Make sure to steal from him both times. Even when he appears to battle Necrophobia, steal from him.
- The Mirage Vest
- This light armor, although not the best defence wise, causes a few attacks to miss all the time. There are several ways to get one. In Istory Falls, there is a very rare enemy called the Tonberi. They will slowly walk up to your characters, then unleash a four-hit attack that can total more than 6000 damage. They also have 39393 HP; try using the Goblin Punch Blue Magic, for sometimes it does 7000+ damage per hit. They drop it randomly after battle.
- There is an enemy in the Shrine of the Solitary Island, called Owazolar, that looks like a little imp. If you steal from him, you'll get either a High Potion or a Mirage Vest. More often than not, it will be a High Potion.
- In the Mirage Town, one of the people says they will give you a present if you fly around the world. Take the Black Chocobo nearby and do as he says; fly around the world. If you do it and talk to the person again, he will give you a Mirage Vest.
- The Super Bosses
- There are two super bosses in the game, Omega and Shinryuu. They both can be found in the final dungeon, and are incredibally strong. Check out my other FAQ on how to beat them.
